Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) continues to demonstrate its commitment to community service through the contributions of its lecturers in the field of food safety. Dedi Runanto, S.E., M.Si., a lecturer in the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics, UMPWR, served as a resource person in a Food Safety Counseling program for Persons in Charge of Home-Based Food Industries (PKP IRTP), organized by the Purworejo District Health Office.
The activity, held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the PKPRI Building of Purworejo Regency, was attended by 30 participants who are certified home-based food safety operators for 2026. The counseling aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of proper record-keeping and documentation in food production processes.
In his presentation, Dedi Runanto emphasized that proper documentation is a key factor in maintaining the quality and safety of food products.
“Production traceability is crucial. IRTP actors must be able to track their products. If an issue arises, such as a product being unfit for consumption, it should be possible to identify the production code, distribution channels, and the number of products that need to be withdrawn from the market,” he explained.
The materials covered included production recording systems, distribution documentation, and the importance of food product traceability. The session was conducted interactively through discussions and concluded with a post-test to assess participants’ understanding.
Through this activity, it is expected that IRTP actors in Purworejo Regency will become more aware of the importance of proper documentation systems as part of efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumers.
UMPWR remains committed to engaging with the community through the tangible contributions of its lecturers and academic community in various fields, including improving the quality of home-based food industries.
