University of Muhammadiyah Purworejo is the only university-level university in Purworejo. In accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 05 / D / 0 / 1999 dated 8 January 1999, Muhammadiyah Purworejo University Officially Became the University Level After Previously Being at the Institute Level. Based on data from the 4ICU Institute, the July edition of 2024 states that Muhammadiyah Purworejo University is ranked 8th out of all Muhammadiyah/‘Aisyiyah universities in Indonesia, 2nd place for Muhammadiyah/’Aisyiyah universities in Central Java, 3rd place for private universities in Central Java, and 7th place for universities in Central Java.
