Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) has once again marked an important milestone in strengthening its academic quality by inaugurating Prof. Dr. Sudar, M.Pd. as Professor in the field of Applied Linguistics on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Kasman Singodimedjo Auditorium.

This inauguration serves as a strategic momentum for UMPWR to further strengthen its academic tradition, research, and scholarly contributions, particularly in the fields of language and education in the digital era. Prof. Sudar currently serves as the Director of the Postgraduate Program at UMPWR and is also a lecturer in the Master’s Program of English Language Education.

In his remarks, the Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., emphasized that achieving the rank of Professor is not merely an administrative accomplishment, but the result of a long journey filled with dedication.

“The position of Professor is not merely an administrative achievement, but the pinnacle of a long journey undertaken with perseverance, academic integrity, and unwavering dedication to the advancement of knowledge.”

The Rector also highlighted that this inauguration is part of UMPWR’s academic resurgence, while simultaneously strengthening the university’s contribution to the development of education based on literacy, communication, and Islamic values.

“Today, we are not only inaugurating a Professor, but also affirming the dignity of knowledge, strengthening civilization, and igniting hope for the future of the nation.”

Furthermore, the Rector noted that in the South Kedu region—covering Purworejo, Magelang, Kebumen, and Wonosobo—the number of Professors remains relatively limited. In this context, UMPWR’s achievement represents a strategic leap that deserves collective appreciation.

“The inauguration of Prof. Dr. Sudar, M.Pd. not only increases the number of professors, but also marks an academic revival, particularly in strengthening the fields of language and education that are highly relevant to contemporary needs,” he concluded.

In his scientific oration, Prof. Sudar presented an innovative theme on the use of Morphology-Based Digital Islamic English Text in English language learning. He emphasized that this approach can enhance critical reading skills, vocabulary mastery, and the integration of Islamic values in the learning process.

“Digital Islamic English Text focusing on morphology can improve critical reading skills, vocabulary mastery, and the integration of Islamic values in English language learning.”

He further highlighted the importance of higher education adapting to digital transformation, as well as the need to strengthen 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Majelis Diktilitbang PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. Sutrisno, M.Ag., encouraged lecturers to continuously and seriously develop their expertise.

“Lecturers must continuously enhance their expertise, so that when the nation needs them—whether at the national or regional level—they are ready. Such expertise must be infused with the spirit of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK).”

The representative of the Head of LLDIKTI Region VI Central Java, through the Head of General Affairs, Adhrial Refaddin, S.I.P., M.P.P., also expressed deep appreciation for this achievement.

He stated that he felt both admiration and emotion upon attending the inauguration, recognizing the long journey and sacrifices involved—ranging from time and energy to personal and family commitments—until reaching the rank of Professor.

This inauguration is not only a source of pride for UMPWR but also a symbol of strengthening the role of higher education in producing scholars who are not only academically, but also capable of providing solutions for society and the nation.

With the addition of a new Professor, UMPWR is increasingly optimistic about continuing its development into a leading and competitive university that contributes meaningfully to the advancement of civilization grounded in knowledge and Islamic values.
