Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) once again reaffirmed its commitment to shaping graduates with strong character through the Baitul Arqam program. On Friday, April 24, 2026, the Rector of UMPWR officially opened the Baitul Arqam program for the Class of 2023, held at the Seminar Room of the East Campus of UMPWR.
The event was attended by the Rector, Vice Rectors, and lecturers from the Institute for the Study, Deepening, and Practice of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah Values (LP3AK) UMPWR. The opening ceremony was conducted in a solemn yet enthusiastic atmosphere, marking the beginning of an intensive character-building program for students.
The Head of LP3AK UMPWR, Nasrudin, M.S.I., reported that this year’s Baitul Arqam is attended by 922 students from the Class of 2023, currently in their sixth semester. The program is conducted every Friday–Saturday, starting from April 24–25, 2026, and will conclude on June 5–6, 2026.
Furthermore, Nasrudin explained that Baitul Arqam is not merely a routine training program but also serves as an essential short-term preparation for students, particularly ahead of their Community Service Program (KKN). The materials provided include strengthening da’wah (Islamic outreach) as well as practical worship applications in society.

In his remarks, the Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., emphasized that Baitul Arqam is not just an ordinary training, but a fundamental process of character formation. He encouraged all participants to take part in the program earnestly.
“Baitul Arqam is our collective effort to strengthen Islamic and Muhammadiyah perspectives. It is an essential program that must be completed as a prerequisite for graduation,” he stated.
The Rector also expressed hope that through this program, students will not only achieve academic degrees but also develop into individuals with noble character and strong integrity.
“A diploma is important, but character is far more important. We hope that UMPWR students will become future leaders and active members of Muhammadiyah who bring positive values to society,” he concluded.
With the commencement of this Baitul Arqam program, UMPWR continues to demonstrate its role as an educational institution that excels not only academically but also in nurturing character and Islamic values among the younger generation. (akb/KP)
