Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) received a special visit from Zulkifli Hasan on Thursday, April 16, 2026, as part of an event themed Food Security and Affordable Market Program. The event, held at Auditorium Kasman Singodimedjo, was attended by various elements of society, including lecturers, administrative staff, students, representatives of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership of Purworejo, Muhammadiyah Branch Leaderships across Purworejo, Jamaah Tani Muhammadiyah (JATAM), and local farmers in Purworejo Regency.

The Rector of UMPWR, Teguh Wibowo, in his remarks, expressed his appreciation and warm welcome to the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs. He emphasized that the visit marked an important momentum to strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions and the government in supporting national food security.

On this occasion, the Rector also presented JATAM Purworejo’s flagship program, namely the cultivation of one million sugar palm trees as a strategic initiative to support food security based on local potential. He noted that sugar palm development not only contributes to the food sector but also holds significant potential for renewable energy development and environmental sustainability.

“We hope that the presence of the Minister will provide policy direction to further strengthen the integration between the food and energy sectors. With strong synergy, we are optimistic that Purworejo can become a model for sustainable sugar palm development,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli Hasan outlined several key government programs aimed at strengthening food security, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and the implementation of affordable markets to maintain price stability and ensure food availability for the community.

This event not only served as a platform for engagement between the government and the community but also reinforced a shared commitment to achieving inclusive, sustainable, and locally driven food security. (akb/KP)
