Purworejo — The Surya FM Radio Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) successfully held a Broadcasting Seminar on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the FKIP Thesis Conference Room. The event was attended by 18 delegates from various student organizations and autonomous bodies (Ortom) within UMPWR.
The seminar featured Fitri Wijayanti Wiryaningrum, S.E., a broadcaster from Irama FM Purworejo, as the guest speaker. She shared practical insights into the broadcasting world as well as public speaking skills, particularly in radio broadcasting.
This seminar aimed to provide up-to-date knowledge on public speaking techniques and to build participants’ confidence in expressing their ideas. Through this activity, participants not only gained theoretical understanding but also practical experience on how to become a competent and professional broadcaster.
Siti Fadhilah Nur Hayati, Treasurer of Surya FM Radio UKM, stated that the event was designed to help students overcome communication barriers and low self-confidence, which often hinder personal potential.
“Through the theme Mic On, Speak Loud, we want to emphasize the importance of having the courage to express ideas. When someone improves their communication skills, they will naturally build stronger mental resilience and confidence to face challenges in both organizational and professional settings,” she explained.
In addition to the presentation sessions, participants were also given the opportunity to practice broadcasting and engage in interactive discussions through a Q&A session to deepen their understanding.
During her presentation, the speaker also highlighted the habits of young people, especially Gen Z, who are highly attached to gadgets in their daily lives. This habit, if not managed properly, can reduce direct social interaction, disrupt healthy lifestyles, and create distance in relationships with others. Therefore, it is important to use technology wisely to maintain a balance between digital life and real-life interactions.
Fitri Wijayanti also emphasized the importance of basic public speaking techniques. “When speaking in public, we need to use clear vocal delivery and proper intonation so that the message can be conveyed effectively without sounding rushed. It is also important to pay attention to how we hold the microphone—position it correctly in front of the mouth at an appropriate distance to ensure clarity. Lastly, maintain eye contact with the audience to create more engaging and confident communication,” she explained.
Through this activity, Surya FM Radio UKM UMPWR hopes that students will become more skilled in communication, more confident in expressing their ideas, and better prepared to develop their potential in the digital era.
