Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) once again demonstrated its commitment to spreading benefits during the holy month of Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H by distributing 1,481 packages of zakat al-fitr rice to those in need. The activity was carried out on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, coinciding with 29 Ramadan 1447 H, targeting communities around the campus as well as prayer rooms (mushola), orphanages, and institutions that had previously submitted requests for zakat al-fitr assistance.
The distributed zakat al-fitr was collected from the entire UMPWR academic community, including lecturers, administrative staff, students, and their families throughout the month of Ramadan. This spirit of togetherness and care serves as clear evidence that the university not only functions as a center of education but also as part of a social solution for the wider community.
The Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., stated that this activity represents the implementation of Islamic values upheld within the campus environment. “The distribution of zakat al-fitr is not only a religious obligation but also a means to strengthen social solidarity and brotherhood between the campus and the community. We hope that what has been distributed will bring benefits and happiness to the recipients ahead of Eid al-Fitr,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the zakat al-fitr committee members, Nuhim, S.Pd., explained that the collection and distribution process was carried out in an organized manner to ensure that the assistance reached the right beneficiaries. “We strive to ensure that the zakat collected from the UMPWR academic community is properly distributed to those who are entitled to receive it. We sincerely thank all parties for their trust and participation in this activity,” he stated.
Through this initiative, UMPWR continues to strengthen its role as a university that not only excels in academics but is also actively engaged in social and humanitarian efforts, especially during blessed moments such as Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
