Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) once again created a meaningful Ramadan atmosphere through a Tarawih sermon held at the campus mosque. On Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026, coinciding with the 23rd night of Ramadan 1447 H, the sermon was delivered by the Vice Regent of Purworejo, Dion Agasi Setiabudi, S.I.Kom., M.Si.
In his sermon before the congregation consisting of lecturers, students, staff members, and members of the surrounding community, Dion Agasi Setiabudi emphasized the importance of seeking knowledge as a form of jihad in the path of Allah. He encouraged all attendees to continuously broaden their knowledge and regard the pursuit of learning as a form of devotion to Allah SWT.
According to him, jihad is not always interpreted as a physical struggle, but it can also be manifested through sincerity and dedication in seeking knowledge and applying it for the benefit of the community.
“One form of jihad is striving to seek knowledge as widely as possible. With knowledge, we can provide greater benefits to society and the nation,” he stated.
During the sermon, Dion also shared inspiration from a video featuring Ayatollah Khomeini, who advised a young child to perform jihad by pursuing knowledge. According to him, the message serves as a reminder that striving in the path of Allah can begin from an early age through a strong spirit of learning.
He further encouraged the congregation, especially the younger generation and university students, to never stop learning and to make knowledge a foundation for building a better civilization.
The Tarawih sermon at the UMPWR Campus Mosque, delivered by several inspiring figures, is part of the Ramadan 1447 H program series regularly organized by the university. Through this activity, UMPWR hopes to present inspiring Islamic values while strengthening the spiritual life of its academic community during the holy month of Ramadan. (akb/KP).
