Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) held a Nuzulul Qur’an sermon to commemorate the revelation of the Qur’an on Thursday, March 5, 2026, coinciding with the 17th night of Ramadan 1447 H. The event took place at the UMPWR Campus Mosque after the Tarawih prayer and was attended by members of the university’s academic community and congregants around the campus.

The sermon featured Seneng Widodo, S.Pd., Chairman of the Community Da’wah Institute (LDK) of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership of Magelang, who delivered a lecture titled “The Recipe to Become a Person of the Qur’an.”

In his sermon, he encouraged the audience to make Ramadan a special momentum to strengthen their relationship with the Qur’an. He emphasized that the best act of worship during Ramadan is reciting the Qur’an, as Ramadan is known as the month in which the Qur’an was revealed.

“Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an. Therefore, it should not be spent on excessive sleeping, but rather on increasing our recitation of the Qur’an,” he said.

He also reminded the congregation about several times of sleep that are discouraged as they may reduce the blessing of time, namely sleeping after Fajr, after Asr, after Maghrib, and sleeping during religious gatherings or sermons.

Furthermore, Seneng Widodo highlighted the virtues of reciting the Qur’an, explaining that each letter recited brings ten rewards. He encouraged Muslims to make Ramadan a moment to complete at least one full recitation (khatam) of the Qur’an.

In addition to reciting the Qur’an, he outlined several steps to become a person devoted to the Qur’an, including:

Reciting the Qur’an frequently, especially during Ramadan.

Memorizing the Qur’an as a way to preserve and internalize its teachings.

Reflecting upon the Qur’an (tadabbur) by understanding its meanings and messages.

Practicing the teachings of the Qur’an in everyday life.

Through this Nuzulul Qur’an sermon, UMPWR hopes to inspire its academic community to deepen their love for the Qur’an by reading, understanding, and implementing its values in daily life, thereby fostering individuals who are knowledgeable, ethical, and guided by Qur’anic principles.
