Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) once again brought a meaningful Ramadan atmosphere through its Tarawih sermon at the campus mosque. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, coinciding with the 9th night of Ramadan 1447 H, the sermon was delivered by the Head of the Regional Financial, Revenue, and Asset Management Agency (BPKPAD) of Purworejo Regency, Ir. Hadi Sadsilo.
In his sermon, he raised the theme of Ulul Albab as a portrayal of chosen individuals—special people who possess clarity of intellect, depth of faith, and sharpness of conscience. The concept of Ulul Albab serves as an important reflection for the UMPWR academic community in interpreting Ramadan as a momentum for self-improvement.
Ir. Hadi Sadsilo explained that Ulul Albab refers to people of sound reason who remain vigilant in life and are able to draw lessons from every event. They are not only intellectually intelligent, but also wise in action and spiritually strong.
In his lecture, he outlined several key characteristics of Ulul Albab:
1. Constantly thinking and reflecting
Not merely thinking, but engaging in deep contemplation of Allah SWT’s creations and the realities of life.
2. Able to distinguish between good and bad
Possessing the ability to discern right from wrong and consciously choosing goodness to practice.
3. Continuously deepening and sharing knowledge
Not stopping at the pursuit of knowledge, but also disseminating it as a form of moral and social responsibility.
4. Devotion to Allah SWT
Making piety the primary foundation in every step of life.
The sermon served as a reminder that Ramadan is not only about ritual worship, but also a process of shaping the character of Ulul Albab—individuals who are intelligent, principled, and devout. These values align with UMPWR’s vision of producing graduates who excel academically while remaining strong in spirituality.
The Tarawih activities at the UMPWR campus mosque continue to feature inspiring figures as part of strengthening Islamic and national values, while also fostering ukhuwah (brotherhood) within the campus community.
May the spirit of Ulul Albab become the identity of the UMPWR academic community in building a civilization that is knowledgeable, ethical, and contributive to society. (akb/KP).
