Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) once again demonstrated its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through an International Community Service Program (PKM). Carrying the theme The Real Threat of Cybercrime Among Youth, the activity was held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Maahad As-Sultan Ahmad Shah Ad-dini (SAS), Bandar Jengka, Pahang, Malaysia.
The International PKM featured Galih Bagas Soesilo, S.H., LL.M. as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, he elaborated on various forms of cybercrime frequently targeting adolescents, including cyberbullying, digital fraud, online-based sexual exploitation, and the misuse of personal data for exploitative purposes. He emphasized that these issues are no longer merely potential threats, but global realities that have claimed numerous victims across different countries.
In addition to identifying the various forms and modus operandi of cybercrime, the program underscored the importance of digital literacy as a primary preventive measure. Participants were equipped with knowledge on personal data security, ethical communication in digital spaces, and the legal consequences of online activities. Through interactive discussions and case simulations, participants were guided to recognize evolving cybercrime patterns alongside the increasing use of social media and digital platforms. This educational initiative is expected to foster early legal awareness and strengthen self-protection skills in the digital sphere.
The Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., stated that the program forms part of strengthening UMPWR’s international partnerships with overseas institutions. Maahad As-Sultan Ahmad Shah Ad-dini (SAS) is one of UMPWR’s strategic partners and serves as one of the three locations for the International Community Service Program (KKN) of UMPWR students, conducted for 27 days from January 19 to February 14, 2026, during the 2025/2026 academic year. The program’s main partner is Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pahang Campus, Jengka.
The Vice Rector IV for Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) and Cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tusino, M.Pd.B.I., affirmed that this International PKM is part of the Sabbatical Leave program facilitated by the university for its lecturers. Through this scheme, lecturers are encouraged to conduct research and community service in collaboration with international partners to expand global collaboration and strengthen research networks. A similar statement was conveyed by the Head of the International Affairs Office (KUI) of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jeki Wibawanti, who emphasized that the program not only serves as a medium for knowledge transfer but also reinforces UMPWR’s academic contribution at the international level.

In his closing remarks, Galih Bagas Soesilo emphasized that educators bear a moral responsibility to prepare future generations to be intelligent, ethical, and resilient in the global era, wherever they may be. The issue of cybercrime among youth must not be underestimated. Through this activity, students are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the risks and legal consequences of cybercrime, while becoming smart, responsible, and ethical technology users who know the appropriate steps to take if they become victims.
Also present at the event were Dr. Arif Maftukhin from the Physics Education Study Program, who conducted community service activities, and Abdul Ngafif, M.Pd.B.I., from the English Education Study Program, who carried out Sabbatical Leave research in collaboration with educational institutions in Malaysia. Abdul Ngafif, who also serves as Head of International Cooperation at the UMPWR International Affairs Office (KUI), was responsible for assisting and coordinating the return of UMPWR International KKN students during the program period.
