Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo is once again enlivening the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri by organizing the Ramadan Campus Festival (Gebyar Ramadan Kampus/GEMAS) along Jalan K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, in front of the Main Campus of UMPWR. The event serves as part of Ramadan outreach activities while also demonstrating the university’s commitment to supporting community-based economic empowerment and student entrepreneurship.
GEMAS 1447 H runs throughout the month of Ramadan, from February 18, 2026 to March 19, 2026, daily from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM (WIB). The festival features 29 general UMKM booths and 5 student entrepreneurship booths, offering a variety of takjil (traditional Ramadan snacks), local delicacies, refreshing beverages, and creative products.
The Rector of UMPWR, Teguh Wibowo, emphasized that GEMAS is more than just a bazaar, but a collaborative space between the university and the community.
“Ramadan is a momentum to strengthen spirituality as well as social solidarity. Through the Ramadan Campus Festival, UMPWR aims to create a productive space that brings together the spirit of worship, community economic empowerment, and student creativity. The university must be present to deliver tangible benefits to society,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Committee, Nurmansyah Alami, explained that the program is designed to provide students with hands-on entrepreneurial experience.
“We want students not only to learn entrepreneurship theories in the classroom, but also to practice directly in the field. The participation of five student-run booths demonstrates that Ramadan can be a strategic moment to nurture resilient and creative entrepreneurial spirit,” he explained.
Since its opening day, the festival has attracted strong enthusiasm from the surrounding community. Beyond serving as a popular destination for breaking-fast snacks, GEMAS has also become a platform for strengthening bonds between the academic community and local residents in the blessed atmosphere of Ramadan.
Through the organization of GEMAS 1447 H, UMPWR hopes the event will continue as an annual agenda that fosters ukhuwah (brotherhood), promotes Islamic values, and encourages sustainable economic independence.
