Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – Students participating in the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) in Ngombol Village implemented an educational program on livestock feed seeds on Thursday, January 22, 2026. The activity directly targeted local livestock farmers in Ngombol Village, Ngombol Sub-district, Purworejo Regency, Central Java Province.

The program focused on the distribution of Papua cassava tree seedlings as an alternative source of livestock feed, particularly for local sheep widely raised by the community. In addition to distributing seedlings, KKN students also provided direct education to farmers on the functions and benefits of the plant, planting methods, maintenance, harvesting techniques, and the application of Papua cassava leaves as livestock feed.

The program coordinator explained that the initiative was motivated by the fact that most residents of Ngombol Village work as livestock farmers and still face challenges in the availability of green fodder, especially during certain seasons.

“We see great potential in Ngombol Village in the sheep farming sector, which is independently managed by the local community. Therefore, this program aims to help improve livestock feed resilience through the utilization of plants that are easy to cultivate and have high nutritional value,” said Sandy, Head of the KKN Team of Ngombol Village.

The KKN Academic Supervisor of Ngombol Village from UMPWR, Galih Bagas Soesilo, S.H., LL.M, expressed his appreciation for the program implemented by the KKN team, emphasizing that it is highly relevant to community needs.

“This program is one of the flagship initiatives designed by the KKN team of Ngombol Village by taking into account the potential and needs of the local community, particularly those who raise herbivorous livestock. I hope that all planned programs can be implemented effectively and have a positive impact on the people of Ngombol Village,” he stated.

During its implementation, students visited farmers’ homes and livestock sheds one by one. The education was delivered in a simple and practical manner to ensure it was easily understood, covering techniques for planting Papua cassava cuttings, ideal planting distances, and proper leaf harvesting methods to maintain productivity. Papua cassava was selected due to its rapid growth, ease of maintenance, and good nutritional content as a source of green fodder. Its leaves are rich in protein and can help improve livestock health and growth.

Local farmers responded positively to the activity, stating that they benefited from gaining new knowledge as well as receiving seedlings that can be immediately planted and utilized in the long term. Through this program, KKN students hope that the distributed seedlings will not only be used temporarily but will also serve as a sustainable solution to support livestock productivity in Ngombol Village and improve farmers’ welfare independently.
