Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) continues to strengthen its commitment to developing international networks through the implementation of academic cooperation with overseas higher education institutions. One tangible manifestation of this commitment was marked by the participation of a UMPWR lecturer who also serves as Vice Rector IV for Cooperation and Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tusino, M.Pd.B.I., as a guest lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pahang Branch, Malaysia, on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.
The guest lecture carried the theme “Ethical Issues of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education,” discussing various challenges and opportunities in the application of artificial intelligence in higher education, particularly from the perspective of academic ethics and humanitarian values. The activity was attended by 30 students of UiTM Pahang Branch and 16 UMPWR students who are currently undertaking International Community Service (KKN) and Internship programs in Malaysia.
The Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., who also officially opened the event, emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in addressing global challenges in the digital era.
“Through academic forums such as this, I hope that students of UiTM and UMPWR can learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build strong international networks as preparation for facing global challenges in the future,” he stated.

Meanwhile, in his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tusino, M.Pd.B.I., emphasized that although AI offers many benefits, there are ethical risks that need to be anticipated by higher education institutions. These include plagiarism and the originality of scholarly work, academic integrity, the digital divide, and the potential for unfairness in academic evaluation. According to him, universities have a strategic role in formulating policies, ethical guidelines, and AI literacy so that this technology truly serves as a tool to support learning, rather than replacing essential academic processes.
Dr. Tusino also added that the activity reflects the increasingly strong institutional relationship between the two universities.
“This activity is not only a forum for sharing knowledge, but also a symbol of the shared commitment between UMPWR and UiTM Pahang Branch in building sustainable academic collaboration at the international level,” he added.
The implementation of this guest lecture is also part of the ongoing cooperation between UMPWR and UiTM Pahang Branch, Malaysia. Through this activity, it is expected that the institutional relationship between the two higher education institutions will become even closer and open opportunities for further collaboration in the fields of education, research, and community service at the international level.
