Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – As part of its commitment to supporting disaster risk reduction efforts in Purworejo Regency, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR), in collaboration with the Disaster Resilience Institution (LRB) of PDM Purworejo, organized a Disaster Volunteer Capacity Building Program.
This activity represents a concrete implementation of the RisetMu UMPWR grant program, which is oriented toward community service. The event was held on Friday (January 16, 2026) at the PCM Kutoarjo Hall and was officially opened by the Chairperson of PDM Purworejo, Drs. Pudjiono.
The RisetMu Community Service Team of UMPWR was led by Nurmansyah Alami, M.T., with team members Indri Nurtiyani Hakim, M.T., Agung Nusantoro, M.T., Ulfa Nisa Mumtazah, Anisa Uswatun Khasanah, and Ulfi Nuril Hasan. Through this program, UMPWR seeks to equip new volunteers with strong humanitarian values as well as technical knowledge in disaster management.
A total of 20 participants took part in the activity, representing four sub-districts: Kutoarjo, Bayan, Butuh, and Grabag. Each sub-district sent five representatives to be prepared as volunteers who are ready to serve as the front line of disaster response in their respective areas.
The Head of the RisetMu Community Service Team, Nurmansyah Alami, M.T., explained that this capacity-building program is a continuation of similar activities previously conducted in the Bagelen area. UMPWR aims to establish at least three highly dedicated and well-prepared volunteers in each sub-district.
“The volunteers we expect are not merely symbolic figures, but individuals with strong humanitarian spirit and real readiness to assist the community,” he stated.
The training materials covered the entire disaster management cycle, ranging from pre-disaster mitigation, emergency response, to post-disaster recovery. This approach aligns with the geographical condition of Purworejo, which is categorized as a region with a relatively high level of disaster risk.
In addition to Nurmansyah Alami, M.T., who presented on disaster management and local hazard potential, the program also featured Indri Nurtiyani Hakim, M.T., a lecturer in Civil Engineering at UMPWR with expertise in disaster studies and water resources, as well as Widayat, Chairperson of LRB PDM Purworejo, who delivered material on the vision, mission, and strategic role of volunteers in disaster response.
UMPWR also noted that LRB PDM Purworejo already possesses evacuation facilities in the form of two inflatable boats complete with equipment. However, the distribution of volunteers across sub-districts still needs to be strengthened. Therefore, this activity is expected to produce new volunteers who are ready to serve in their respective regions.
Going forward, UMPWR plans to continue the volunteer capacity-building program in northern Purworejo, covering the areas of Bener, Loano, and Gebang. As the culmination of the program series, a Volunteer Jamboree will be held, focusing on strengthening field technical skills, volunteer safety procedures, and aid distribution management in disaster-affected areas.
Through the emergence of competent and highly dedicated volunteers, UMPWR hopes to contribute to building stronger community resilience in Purworejo, enabling the region to be better prepared in facing potential disasters in the future.
