Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) organized the Briefing and Official Send-Off for the 2026 Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) under the theme “Community Empowerment Based on Education, Religion, and Culture to Strengthen Social Resilience in the Digital Era.” The event was held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Seminar Room of Campus III Sucen, UMPWR.
A total of 450 students are participating in the 2026 UMPWR KKN program. They are divided into 45 groups and will carry out community service activities in 7 districts of Purworejo Regency. As part of the learning and direct community empowerment process, the KKN program requires students to stay and live in the villages for one month.
The briefing session featured two speakers. The first speaker was Ulfah Nursekhah, S.H., M.H., Head of the Division of Village Structuring and Cooperation at the Office of Community and Village Empowerment (DPPPAPMD) of Purworejo Regency, who delivered material on the strategic role of students in village development and empowerment. The second speaker, Dr. Sapardiyono, M.H., a lecturer at UMPWR, provided insights on strengthening the role of KKN students in social life within the community.
In addition, the Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., also delivered a direct briefing to the participants. In his remarks, the Rector emphasized that a good student is one who contributes to society rather than pursuing personal interests. Therefore, teamwork and solidarity are key factors for the success of the KKN program. He also highlighted the importance of soft skills, noting that high academic achievement alone is insufficient without strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills in society.

Furthermore, the Rector explained that KKN has three main roles: applying the knowledge students have acquired from semesters one through seven, empowering local communities, and developing students’ soft skills as essential preparation for life after graduation.
At the end of the event, the Rector of UMPWR officially sent off all participants of the 2026 KKN program, marking the beginning of UMPWR students’ community service activities. Through this program, it is expected that students will become agents of change who make tangible contributions to strengthening community social resilience in the digital era. (akb/KP)
