Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ufa University of Science and Technology (UUST), Russia, in a virtual ceremony held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. This signing marks a strategic step for both universities in strengthening their international networks in the fields of education, research, and global community service.
The event was attended by representatives from UUST, including Dr. Vadim Zakharov (Rector), Dr. Ildus Sharafullin (Vice Rector for Scientific Studies), Dr. Rita Filipova (Vice Rector for International Cooperation), and Ms. Karina Ziyazetdinova (Head of the Department of International Cooperation). Meanwhile, the UMPWR delegation was led by Dr. Teguh Wibowo (Rector of UMPWR), accompanied by Dr. Dwi Irawati (Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs), Dr. Tusino (Vice Rector IV for Cooperation), and Dr. Jeki Wibawanti (Head of the Bureau of Cooperation and International Affairs).
The MoU covers various areas of collaboration, including student mobility programs, international community service, joint research and publications, as well as summer camp programs for students from both universities. This partnership is expected to expand academic opportunities while enhancing the internationalization atmosphere within both institutions.
In his remarks, UMPWR Rector, Dr. Teguh Wibowo, stated that this collaboration is an important step in opening global opportunities for the UMPWR academic community.
“We warmly welcome this strategic partnership. UMPWR is committed to providing a global academic experience for our students and lecturers. Through this MoU, we believe various collaborative programs can be realized concretely—not only virtually, but also through direct activities on each campus,” he said.
Similarly, UUST Rector, Dr. Vadim Zakharov, emphasized that his institution is fully prepared to support the implementation of this collaboration.
“Collaboration with UMPWR is an excellent opportunity for both universities to strengthen their global presence and produce scientific works that benefit the international community. We hope this relationship grows stronger through sustainable joint activities,” he remarked.
As an initial form of implementation of this newly established cooperation, UMPWR will soon host an international seminar featuring speakers and participants from four countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, and India. This event is expected to serve as an early momentum to strengthen academic collaboration between UMPWR and UUST while contributing to meaningful cross-country knowledge exchange.
Moving forward, both institutions hope that the collaboration will extend beyond online activities and materialize into offline engagements such as academic visits, faculty and student exchanges, and other joint programs that can deliver broader impacts for both universities.
