Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) — UMPWR’s commitment to supporting the improvement of education quality was once again demonstrated through the contribution of its outstanding lecturers. On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Dr. Raden Wakhid Akhdinirwanto, M.Si, a lecturer from the Physics Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UMPWR, served as the main speaker in an In House Training (IHT) themed Deep Learning and Learning Digitization at SMP Negeri 5 Wates, Kulon Progo.
The event, held in the Meeting Room of SMPN 5 Wates, was attended by the Principal and all teachers of the school. The IHT aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity in developing deep learning assessments so that the teaching and learning process becomes more relevant and impactful for students.
The program was opened by the Principal of SMPN 5 Wates, who expressed appreciation for UMPWR’s presence and emphasized the importance of enhancing teacher competence in facing modern educational challenges. The event continued with the main presentation by Dr. Wakhid, followed by an interactive discussion session and closing remarks.
In his presentation, Dr. Wakhid emphasized that assessments in Deep Learning consist of three types: initial assessment, process assessment, and final assessment. He also explained key concepts in learning evaluation, namely Assessment as Learning, Assessment for Learning, and Assessment of Learning.
“Assessment for Learning is conducted during the learning process with the purpose of monitoring student progress and adjusting instruction to meet their needs. This type of assessment is not used as the basis for final grades and may take the form of class discussions, quick quizzes, or reflective journals,” explained Dr. Wakhid.
Meanwhile, Assessment of Learning is applied at the end of a learning unit or instructional period. Its purpose is to measure what students have learned and determine final grades, such as through end-of-semester exams, final projects, or research reports.
Teachers at SMPN 5 Wates were enthusiastic during the question-and-answer and discussion sessions. They gained new insights into strategies for developing more meaningful assessments aligned with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.
This IHT activity not only served as a platform for improving teacher competence but also strengthened collaboration between UMPWR and partner schools in fostering learning practices that are more adaptive, in-depth, and focused on student development.
