Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) — Another proud achievement has emerged from the Master’s Program in English Education (PBI) at UMPWR. Tria Oktafiana, a 2024 cohort student of the program, has successfully stepped onto the international literary stage after her novel titled “Antara Lepet dan Sura” was translated and officially published by Dalang Publishing, a reputable publisher based in San Mateo, California, United States.
The novel “Antara Lepet dan Sura” presents a rich blend of local cultural elements, inner conflicts, and universal human values. Its unique narrative style and profound message captured the attention of Dalang Publishing’s editorial team, leading to its selection for translation and distribution to global readers.
In developing her work, Tria was supervised by Dr. Junaedi Setiyono, M.Pd., a lecturer in the Master’s Program of English Education at UMPWR who is also an internationally recognized author. Tria expressed her gratitude and pride for this milestone.
“I never imagined that a work born from my anxieties and inspiration from Javanese culture could reach international readers. The translation process with the Dalang Publishing team was truly an invaluable experience,” she said.
The university extended its highest appreciation for this outstanding achievement.
UMPWR Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., stated that Tria’s success reflects the strong academic quality and remarkable potential of UMPWR students to excel at a global level.
“This achievement proves that UMPWR students are capable of producing internationally recognized works. We are incredibly proud and will continue to support the development of creative and scholarly works that bring honor to our university,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Dwi Irawati, S.E., M.Si., emphasized that this accomplishment aligns with UMPWR’s vision of fostering academic productivity and student creativity.
“When a student’s work is published by an international publisher, it signifies that their academic guidance and literacy potential have been widely acknowledged. We hope this achievement inspires other students to be bold in creating,” she added.
With the publication of “Antara Lepet dan Sura” by Dalang Publishing, Tria Oktaviana now joins the ranks of young Indonesian authors whose works have successfully reached international audiences. This accomplishment not only marks her personal success but also strengthens UMPWR’s position as a university capable of nurturing outstanding and globally competitive scholars.
