Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting student competency development through a Public Speaking Training held at SMA Muhammadiyah Tambak, Banyumas, on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. The training was attended by 23 tenth- and eleventh-grade students who are part of the school’s New Student Admission System (SPMB) team.

The program aimed to equip students with essential public speaking skills, enhance their self-confidence, and prepare them to carry out their duties as members of the SPMB team. Public speaking is a crucial skill not only for school activities but also for community engagement and future professional contexts.

The session featured three speakers: Dr. Herlina Setyowati, M.Pd., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and Lecturer in Javanese Language and Literature at UMPWR; Febri Setiawan; and Faiz Satrianto, S.Pd. (UMPWR Admission Team), each delivering material using different but complementary approaches.

Dr. Herlina Setyowati presented material on the importance of self-confidence as the core foundation of a public speaker, emphasizing that strong mental readiness and confidence enable students to perform more convincingly.

The second speaker, Faiz Satrianto, S.Pd., explained techniques for delivering material clearly, engagingly, and effectively so that the audience can fully grasp the message.

Meanwhile, Febri Setiawan discussed technical aspects of stage mastery, including gesture, eye contact, and voice control—all crucial components in effective public speaking performance.

Following the presentation session, students had the opportunity to practice speaking in front of the audience. Each participant delivered a short presentation and received direct feedback and reinforcement from the trainers.

The Vice Principal for Student Affairs, Nurhidayati, S.Pd.I., expressed her appreciation for the activity. “This public speaking training equips students to carry out their duties as the SPMB team. Furthermore, every school and community activity requires strong and effective public speaking skills so that students are ready to face future challenges,” she stated.

One of the participants, Rahmat Ramadhan, also shared his positive experience. “I’m very happy to join this activity. I’ve become more confident speaking in front of others. The trainers delivered the material well and guided us effectively,” he said.

This training is expected to bring significant benefits to the participants, particularly in strengthening their communication skills and readiness to serve as school ambassadors in SPMB activities. Through collaborations like this, UMPWR continues to demonstrate its commitment to contributing to the development of quality young generations.
