Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) — A lecturer from the Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, participated in the Development of the Biodiversity Master Plan (RIP) for Central Java Province, organized by the Regional Development Planning Agency of Central Java, along with the Provincial Office of Environment and Forestry.
This activity was supported by Burung Indonesia (the Indonesian Wild Bird Conservation Association) and involved academics, Provincial and Ministerial Government Agencies (OPD), Regency/City OPD groups, CSOs, and community groups. The event took place at Atria Hotel, Magelang, on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
The program aims to formulate strategic policy directions for managing and developing local biodiversity, covering sectors such as agriculture, livestock, forestry, and the utilization of genetic resources for sustainable regional development.

Representing UMPWR’s Animal Science Department, Dr. Jeki Wibawanti, M.Eng., M.Si, attended as an academic and contributor in the livestock sector. She provided academic insights on the management of local livestock genetic resources in the Kedu Raya region, including the Kaligesing Goat, Kedu Chicken, Peranakan Ongole (PO) Cattle of Kebumen, Batur Sheep, and Wonosobo Sheep (Dombos).
The lecturer also delivered key recommendations regarding conservation strategies, productivity improvement, and the economic utilization of superior local livestock to support the rural bioeconomy. During group discussions, she contributed to several strategic issues, including strengthening the genetic profile of local livestock as a foundation for the RIP-KH, developing regional superior breeding units for Kedu Raya’s characteristic livestock, and innovating value-added livestock products with functional benefits to enhance economic value.
UMPWR’s involvement in this forum demonstrates the university’s commitment to supporting regional development planning, particularly in strengthening biodiversity potential through scientific and sustainable approaches, utilizing various research outcomes and community engagement programs.
UMPWR hopes that the resulting RIP-KH will provide clearer direction for the development of Kedu Raya’s biological wealth and open broader opportunities for collaboration among universities, local governments, and communities.
