Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) - concluded its 61st anniversary celebrations with the Ajang Festival Al-Qur’an (AFAQ) 2025 event on Thursday, November 13, 2025, with the theme “Building a Qur'anic Intellectual Horizon.”
The solemn and enthusiastic event was a manifestation of UMPWR's commitment to instilling Qur'anic values among students and strengthening the synergy between intellectualism and spirituality.
The event was attended by 12 participants of the Musabaqah Hifdzil Qur'an (MHQ) and 10 participants of the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ), all of whom were UMPWR students from various faculties. The participants showcased their best abilities in reading and memorizing the Qur'an with deep understanding.
The General Chair of the Jami'iyyatul Qurro'Wal Huffazh (JQH) Al Bayan UMPWR Student Activity Unit, Ilfa Nenis Meilani, who is also the chair of the AFAQ committee, expressed her hope in her speech that the values of the Qur'an would not only be memorized and read but also practiced in everyday life. Ilfa urged everyone to use this AFAQ event as an opportunity to achieve excellence and strengthen bonds of friendship.
“Hopefully, with this AFAQ activity, love for the Quran will grow within the UMPWR community,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the UMPWR 61st Anniversary Committee, Dr. Sapardiyono, S.Hut., M.H., added that this activity was a meaningful closing symbol for the entire series of UMPWR's 61st anniversary celebrations, which had previously been filled with various academic, social, and sports activities. Sapardiyono hoped that the participants would become cadres of the association, cadres of the ummah, and hopefully cadres of the nation.
On the same occasion, UMPWR Vice Rector IV Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tusino, M.Pd., B.I., expressed his appreciation for the implementation of AFAQ 2025. He hoped that the participants would become a Qur'anic generation that upholds honesty and academic integrity.
“The values of honesty in the Qur'an are important for lecturers and students to understand in this era of AI advancement. A strong generation is one that can practice the Qur'an,” he explained.
With the successful hosting of AFAQ 2025, the 61st anniversary celebrations of UMPWR officially concluded with a religious and inspirational atmosphere, reaffirming that the brilliance of knowledge is more meaningful when illuminated by the light of the Quran. (akb/KP).
