Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – As a continuation of the collaboration between UMPWR and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Dr. Nila Kurniasih, M.Si., from the Mathematics Education Department, has initiated a joint research project on ethnomathematics together with UiTM lecturers Dr. Fairuz binti Shohaimay and Mazura binti Mokhtar. The study aims to map the relationship between cultural elements and mathematical practices within the learning context of UiTM students.

In parallel, Widyaning Hapsari, M.Psi., Psychologist, from the Psychology Department, in collaboration with Dr. Hasnizawati binti Hashim and Dr. Fazreena binti Mansor, is conducting a study on character education among Malaysian university students to identify indicators of strengthened values, attitudes, and academic behaviors. The data collection involves 100 UiTM student respondents using a structured survey approach, supported by cross-unit academic coordination as part of the implementation of the international cooperation agreed upon by both institutions. This activity represents a concrete follow-up to the memorandum of understanding and the internationalization agenda of UMPWR, emphasizing collaborative research, academic mobility, and tangible contributions to knowledge development.

Meanwhile, Dr. Umi Faizah, M.Pd., from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Department, carried out an international community service program assisted by Rosilina binti Ali, Dr. Mohd Samsuri bin Ghazali, and Dr. Fazreena binti Mansor, introducing ecoprinting as a form of cultural diplomacy and an exploration of creative entrepreneurship for UiTM academics and students. The activity was coordinated by Nor Khairunnisa binti Mat Yunus, a lecturer from the Business Studies Program. This collaboration strengthens cross-border knowledge transfer, connecting cultural appreciation, creativity, and sustainable economic opportunities.

This joint initiative is expected to result in co-authored publications and the development of learning modules based on findings in ethnomathematics and character education within the Malaysia–Indonesia higher education context. UMPWR reaffirms its commitment to expanding its international research networks and programs through topic diversification, study replication, and the enhancement of faculty–student capacity under mobility and co-creation research schemes.
