Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) – Dr. Herlina Setyowati, M.Pd., a lecturer in Javanese Language and Literature Education and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), served as a speaker at a Technical Guidance Activity (Bimtek) on Literacy for Javanese Language Teachers at Elementary and Junior High Schools. This event was organized by the Purworejo Regency Library and Archives Office in order to foster an interest in reading and introduce literacy activities in educational institutions and the community, as well as to support the 2025 Adeg-Adeg Festival.
The event took place on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Auditorium Hall, 2nd Floor of the Purworejo Regency Public Library Support Building, attended by 50 participants who were elementary and junior high school teachers from various schools in Purworejo Regency.
On this occasion, Dr. Herlina presented material entitled “The Creative Process of Writing Cerkak.” She emphasized that the main assets of a writer are karep (desire), tancep (focus), antep (sincerity), and sregep (diligence). “In writing, beginner writers can start with the niteni, nirokake, lan nambahi model, as well as being sensitive to the phenomena around them. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and once you have an idea for a story, write it down immediately, even if it's just a simple idea,” she said.
This literacy technical training activity was held for three days, starting on Saturday, November 1, 2025, to Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The event began with a book discussion of an anthology of geguritan poetry titled Samudraning Pepeling. The chairperson of the organizing committee, Surip Sri Rahayu, S.Pd.SD, shared her impression that the activity was very interesting and memorable. “This literacy workshop provides a new experience for teachers to become more creative and skilled in literature,” she said.
Meanwhile, one of the participants, Ngadimah, S.Pd., expressed her enthusiasm. “This technical training activity is very inspiring and useful. Since I was a child, I have loved literature, and this activity has further honed my skills in writing poetry and short stories,” she said.
Through this activity, it is hoped that the literacy skills of teachers in Purworejo Regency will become stronger, and that a sustainable culture of reading and writing will be fostered within schools and the community.
