Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) continues to strengthen strategic collaboration with various national institutions in the fields of research, innovation, and community service. One concrete step taken was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Center for Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing (PVTPP) and 29 Muhammadiyah Universities (PTM) across Indonesia.
The event, held at the Siti Walidah Hall of Muhammadiyah University Surakarta (UMS) on Tuesday–Wednesday, October 28–29, 2025, was attended in person by the Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. This cooperation aims to strengthen the implementation of the Four Pillars of Higher Education, particularly in the fields of research, dissemination, protection, registration, and release of plant varieties, as well as agricultural licensing. Through this legal framework, UMPWR is expected to play an increasingly active role in promoting innovation in the agricultural sector that directly benefits the community.
The event opened with remarks from the Rector of UMS, followed by a presentation from the Head of the PVTPP Center of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture on the role of PVTPP in supporting the utilization of research results from Muhammadiyah Universities. In addition, the Chair of the Muhammadiyah University Intellectual Property Center Association (ASKI PTM) also conveyed the strategic role of universities in plant variety protection and the commercialization of research results.
The event was then officially opened by the Acting Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, who emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to strengthen the national research ecosystem.
The highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Head of the PVTPP Center and the Rectors of PTM, including the Rector of UMPWR. In this opportunity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd stated that this collaboration is an important milestone for UMPWR to expand its contribution to research innovation and sustainable agricultural development.
“This collaboration is a concrete step by UMPWR in supporting national agricultural innovation through applied research that benefits the community. We hope this collaboration will open up opportunities for the commercialization of research results by lecturers and students, while strengthening the role of universities in national food security,” said Dr. Teguh.
In addition to the signing of the MoU, the event also featured an exhibition and on-the-spot coaching clinic on plant variety protection and agricultural licensing, as well as a socialization session and thematic discussion on the second day.
With this collaboration, UMPWR further reaffirms its commitment to becoming an adaptive, innovative, and impactful research campus, particularly in the fields of agriculture and the development of appropriate technology for community welfare.
