Dr. Umi Faizah, M.Pd., a lecturer at Muhammadiyah University Purworejo (UMPWR), served as a speaker at the In-House Training (IHT) event organised by Muhammadiyah High School Purworejo on Monday, 13 October 2025. The event focused on the theme ‘Enhancing Teachers' Competencies in Deep Learning for Literacy and Numeracy-Based Question Development.’
The training was attended by teachers from Muhammadiyah High School Purworejo and Widya Kutoarjo High School, with the primary objective of strengthening their understanding in developing assessment instruments that are deep-learning oriented and focused on literacy and numeracy.
In her presentation, Dr. Umi Faizah explained that literacy and numeracy-based questions are one strategy for delivering more contextual, relevant, and learner-centred learning. She also emphasised the importance of developing questions that take into account two main aspects, namely Authenticity, where questions reflect real situations that are relevant to everyday life, and Holistic, which assesses students comprehensively, covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects.
In addition to the presentation of material, this IHT activity also included a practical session on assessment development. Participants were given the opportunity to create questions according to their respective subjects, referring to the principles of deep learning that had been discussed.
The teachers participating in the IHT welcomed this training enthusiastically and expressed their hope that similar activities could be carried out on an ongoing basis. They considered this training to be highly applicable and supportive of the implementation of a curriculum that requires more meaningful assessment.
With the implementation of this activity, it is hoped that teachers will be able to become learning facilitators who not only focus on mastery of subject matter, but also develop students' literacy and numeracy skills through appropriate and effective assessment.
