Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) — In commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the Scout Club Racana K.H. Ahmad Dahlan and Nyi Walidah, a beach clean-up activity was held at Dewa Ruci Beach, Jatimalang, Purworejo, on Sunday (5/10/2025). This year, the Scouting Student Activity Unit celebrated its 41st anniversary in a different way. It was not just a celebration, but a concrete action to protect the earth through a beach clean-up activity.

This activity was attended by 92 participants, including friends from UIN Wali Songo Semarang (10 people), UNTIDAR Magelang (6 people), Universitas Veteran Bangun Nusantara Sukoharjo (5 people), Saka Pariwisata (8 people), Saka Bahari (4 people), the Youth, Sports and Tourism Office (9 people), and the committee (50 people).

The event was opened by Eny Widiarti, D.Si.T., M.Kes., as the head of the youth and scouting division, and Agus Budiyanto as the representative of the destination division. This activity served as a moment for scout members and related parties to demonstrate their concern for the environment.

Plastic waste, bottles, and household waste scattered along the coastline were collected together as a small step towards reducing marine pollution. This beach clean-up activity not only aims to maintain the cleanliness of nature, but also to instil a sense of social responsibility in the younger generation. In addition, the togetherness that was formed between members and related parties further strengthened the spirit of mutual cooperation.

Dr Herlina Setyowati, M.Pd, advisor to the Nyi Walidah UMPWR Scout Club, said that this activity was a reflection of the spirit of service to the country, which is the soul of Scouting.

‘Through this beach clean-up activity, we want to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment while strengthening solidarity among Scout members,’ she said.

Furthermore, Herlina also emphasised that activities such as this serve as a means of contextual learning for students. Through this 41st anniversary celebration, the UMPWR Scout Club is committed to continuing to contribute to humanitarian, environmental, and character education activities for students and the wider community.

With that spirit, the UMPWR Scout Club also wants to convey the message that loving nature means loving life. This simple action is hoped to inspire the wider community to be more concerned about preserving the environment.
