Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) – through the Hizbul Wathan (HW) Student Activity Unit (UKM) Hizbul Wathan (HW) organised a roadshow event titled HW Teaching, held during the Qobilah Guest Reception Camp (PPTQ) at Muhammadiyah Vocational School Purwodadi from 26 to 27 September 2025. HW UMPWR initiated HW Teaching as an effort to improve the soft skills of cadres and a form of synergy between autonomous Muhammadiyah organisations (Ortom) in the field of scouting. Together with the Qobilah SMK Muhamamdiyah Purwodadi advisors, HW UMPWR cadres became instructors in the activity.
The learning process in this camp, attended by 170 students, utilised an experiential learning approach. Participants were not only introduced to the Hizbul Wathan organisation theoretically but also directly experienced the values of discipline, leadership, and brotherhood in a familial atmosphere.
"This learning method is effective for participants, especially when guided by older students who are not much older than them. Alhamdulillah, we are pleased with this scouting learning model. We want every participant to return home with renewed enthusiasm, a spirit of struggle, and an awareness that they are part of a large da'wah movement through scouting," said Ramanda Anom Unggul Widodo, S.Pd, advisor to Qobillah HW SMK Muhammadiyah Purwodadi.
Furthermore, Tri Lestari, chairperson of the Kafilah Penuntun Faqih Usman UMPWR, stated that for HW UMPWR, this is one of the most effective ways to develop the soft skills of cadres. ‘Of course, it is not only about mastering theory; cadres can also develop soft skills by directly engaging in teaching. Becoming a strong HW cadre who has a positive impact on the wider community is our new spirit,’ she explained.
The HW teaching programme at SMK Muhammadiyah Purwodadi is the second of its kind, following a similar programme previously implemented at SMA Muhammadiyah Kutoarjo. The plan is to also implement the HW teaching programme at SMK Muhammadiyah Purworejo and SMA Muhammadiyah Purworejo. ‘This year, we will start with Purworejo, and next year, we will expand to Magelang and Kebumen, God willing,’ added Tri Lestari.
