The Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) of Muhammadiyah University Purworejo (UMPWR) organised the Orientation Period (MASTA) as part of the series of activities for the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PPKKMB) for the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The event took place on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, at the Kasman Singodimedjo Auditorium, UMPWR.

With the theme ‘The Spirit of IMM Movement for Indonesia Emas 2045’, Sonya Florista, as the chair of the committee, said that this IMM MASTA was part of the pre-cadre training for new students to become cadres in Muhammadiyah's autonomous organisations (ORTOM) at UMPWR, such as IMM, Hizbul Wathan, and Tapak Suci. Through this activity, it is hoped that young cadres with Islamic character, knowledge, and progressiveness in line with Muhammadiyah’s ideals will emerge.

In line with this, IMM Commissariat Coordinator Revo Bagus Ardana said that new students are expected to join IMM to produce students with intellectual capabilities. Revo emphasised that IMM is not only for Muslims but is also open to non-Muslim students. He cited IMM in several regions, such as Bali, which also has Hindu students.

The Rector of UMPWR, Associate Professor Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., stated in his speech that there is no compulsion for students to join IMM. According to him, Muhammadiyah is a very tolerant organisation.

"There is no compulsion for new students to join IMM. There are also many students here who are not from Muhammadiyah. Muhammadiyah is a very tolerant organisation," he explained.

This event will also feature professional speakers, including Dr. Imam Mahdi, S.Ip, M.A. and Dr. Hasan Bayuni, who will deliver material on the Role of Muhammadiyah Organisations and Students as Agents of Change, as well as Prof. Iwan Satriawan, S.H., MCL., Ph.D. (HTN FH UMY expert) who will deliver material on Indonesia Emas 2045: Optimising the Role of Students and Organisations Amidst the Challenges of the Society 5.0 Era.

During this activity, new students will receive material on Islam, leadership, organisation, and the values of the IMM struggle. Additionally, MASTA also serves as a space to strengthen bonds and Islamic brotherhood among new students.

Through the implementation of MASTA, IMM UMPWR hopes that new students are not only prepared for academic life but also possess moral and social commitment to become a generation that makes a positive impact on the community, nation, and organisation. (Akb/KP).
