Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) officially realised a strategic partnership with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Pahang, Malaysia, through the implementation of a Visiting Professor programme on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, at the East Campus Seminar Room. This international academic agenda aims to improve the quality of education and expand the horizons of global collaboration.
The event was warmly opened by the Rector of UM Purworejo, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd. In his speech, he emphasised the significance of collaboration between lecturers and students in facing increasingly complex global challenges. "This collaboration not only enriches academic knowledge, but also prepares adaptive and competitive human resources in the international arena. The UiTM campus has a very close relationship with UMPWR in collaboration in the field of the Tri Dharma of higher education," said Associate Professor Dr. Teguh Wibowo.
In line with this, the Vice-Chancellor of UiTM Pahang, Prof. Ts. Dr. Azhan bin Hashim, also expressed his appreciation. He emphasised the close academic relationship and potential for ongoing collaboration between UiTM and UM Purworejo. ‘We are very pleased to be able to strengthen this friendship and academic cooperation, which will bring great benefits to both institutions,’ said Prof. Ts. Dr. Azhan bin Hashim.
Before entering the main session, the forum was enlivened with cultural performances. Twelve UiTM Pahang students showcased the rich culture of Malaysia, followed by a stunning performance from UM Purworejo students who introduced Indonesian cultural arts, creating a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
The core session of the Visiting Professor seminar featured three prominent speakers from UiTM Pahang. The first speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazirah Ramli, delivered an inspiring presentation on ‘Good and Right Decision Making for a Bright Future’. She provided strategic guidance for participants on how to plan for a successful future through wise decisions.
Next, Dr. Mohd. Kamal Azman b. Jusoh discussed ‘Challenges and Dynamics of Higher Education: Strategies for Overcoming Various Problems’. This material is very relevant for students and academics in facing various obstacles during their education.
To conclude the session, Dr. Norulhuda Tajuddin presented on ‘Organisational Culture and Characteristics of a Good, Modern, and Sustainable Organisation.’ This material reviewed the importance of organisational adaptation to developments of the times in order to achieve effectiveness and sustainability.
Associate Professor Dr. Tusino, Vice Rector for AIK and Cooperation, also stated that the cooperation between UMPWR and UiTM Pahang Branch will continue in the form of international mobility for lecturers and students through activities that are beneficial to both parties.
This Visiting Professor programme is expected to become a strong foundation for further academic cooperation between UMPWR and UiTM Pahang Malaysia, opening up opportunities for joint research, student exchanges, and curriculum development relevant to global demands, added Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jeki Wibawanti, Head of the Bureau of Cooperation and International Affairs (KUI) Umpwr. The event was moderated by Galih Bagas Soesilo, S.H., LL.M, Head of Domestic Cooperation (KUI), and Abdul Afif, M.Pd, Head of International Cooperation (KUI).
