Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) held a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day on Sunday, 17 August 2025. The solemn ceremony, held on the western campus grounds of UMPWR, was attended by the entire academic community, including university leadership, faculty members, staff, and students.
The ceremony was conducted with great solemnity, marked by the raising of the Indonesian flag by the flag-raising team, accompanied by the national anthem ‘Indonesia Raya,’ and the reading of the Proclamation text. All participants followed the proceedings with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of nationalism.

After the ceremony, UMPWR Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., said that this year's independence day theme was ‘Unity and Sovereignty, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia.’ This theme serves as both a reminder and motivation for all education stakeholders, particularly UMPWR, to continue making tangible contributions toward realising a nation that is independent, sovereign, and progressive.
“As a Muhammadiyah university, UMPWR is committed to preparing young people who are morally upright, knowledgeable, and capable of facing developments in science and technology. This independence anniversary serves as a driving force for us all to strengthen unity, improve the quality of education, and provide benefits for society, the nation, and the state,” he said.
Following the flag-raising ceremony, UMPWR also organised a Fun Game of Plastic Volleyball among faculty members and staff to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day and the 61st Anniversary of UMPWR.
