Purworejo – The Master's Programme in Mathematics Education at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) held a Master's Thesis Research Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, at the Ardiana Suite Hotel Purworejo. This activity aims to strengthen the direction and quality of master's students' research in developing theses that are relevant, high-quality, and have a significant impact on the development of mathematics education.
The FGD was attended by the Director of the Graduate School, lecturers and master's students in Mathematics Education, as well as practitioners from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools. This activity also served as an academic forum to provide input and improvements to students' research plans.
The Director of the Graduate School at UMPWR, Dr. Sudar, M.Pd., expressed appreciation for the FGD in his opening remarks. “This activity is an important step to ensure that master’s thesis research can address real-world issues in the field of education,” he stated. He also emphasised the importance of collaboration between faculty members, students, and practitioners to produce innovative and applicable research. The FGD activity serves as a strategic medium to strengthen academic culture within the Graduate School environment.
The Head of the Master's Programme in Mathematics Education, Dr. Puji Nugraheni, M.Pd., stated that this activity is part of the programme's strategy to encourage students to produce outstanding scientific works. ‘We want to ensure that from the outset, students receive proper guidance in designing their research, including methodology, theoretical review, and contributions to mathematics education in Indonesia,’ she said.
This FGD activity was conducted by five Master's Thesis Research Teams (PTM) that received funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the year 2025. Each team was given a session to present their research plans in the form of product designs to be developed, followed by feedback in the form of input from lecturers and practitioners. Through this FGD, each research team received valuable constructive feedback from faculty members and practitioners for further product development. It is hoped that this activity will enhance the quality of research outcomes, including products, scientific publications, and master's theses in the Mathematics Education programme. (akb/KP).
