Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo (UMPWR) – held a workshop on the formulation of UMPWR’s Vision and Mission for the 2025–2035 period on Monday, 28 July 2025, at the Main Meeting Room of the Rectorate Building. This activity serves as a strategic step in solidifying the direction of institutional development toward becoming an excellent, competitive university rooted in progressive Islamic values.
The workshop was attended by the Rector of UMPWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., along with vice rectors, deans, directors of graduate programmes, heads of study programmes, heads of institutions, and heads of offices at UMPWR. Through this forum, participants were involved in the process of formulating the strategic policy direction of the campus for the next decade. The workshop discussed the Evaluation of the Achievement and Relevance of the 2015-2025 Vision and Mission, as well as the Draft Formulation of the 2025-2035 Vision and Mission of UMPWR.
In his opening remarks, the Rector of UMPWR stated that the formulation of the vision and mission is an important moment to evaluate past achievements and formulate future orientations in a realistic and progressive manner. “The vision and mission are not merely formal documents, but serve as a strategic compass for all institutional actions,” he said.
Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Dwi Irawati, S.E., M.Si., emphasised the importance of aligning the vision and mission with national higher education policy directions and global developments. “We want to ensure that UMPWR’s future vision and mission are able to integrate Muhammadiyah’s unique characteristics with the needs of the times. Focusing on academic quality, digital transformation (science and technology), entrepreneurship, and curriculum relevance are key components of this strategic document,” she explained.
The workshop between the Formulation Team, university leadership, faculties, study programmes, institutions, and offices explored various perspectives to synergise, align, and integrate the University’s Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMTS) with all units within the UMPWR environment. Synergy, alignment, and integration of VMTS encompass the exploration of values, norms, organisational culture, aspirations, and future goals to be achieved collectively.
It is hoped that the outcomes of this workshop will produce a vision and mission that not only represent the identity and core values of Muhammadiyah but also drive UMPWR to become a centre of excellence in education, research, community service, science and technology, and social entrepreneurship rooted in Islamic values at both national and international levels.
