Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - carried out sacrificial animal slaughtering activities in the framework of Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijri. This activity took place on Saturday, 7 June 2025, coinciding with 11 Dhulhijjah 1446 H, at UMPWR East Campus. This activity was carried out on the second day of Eid al-Adha because on the first day the sacrificial committee was involved in the community. So the hope is that in addition to being involved in UMPWR, the committee can also remain involved in their respective local communities.
A total of 4 cows were slaughtered in this activity, which is a form of participation of the UMPWR academic community in qurbani worship as well as concern for others. ‘In this qurbani, UMPWR slaughtered 4 cows where two cows from lecturers and education staff and two more cows from student fees,’ explained Ari Fajar Isbakhi, M.Pd.I as vice chairman of the committee.
Furthermore, Ari Fajar also said that the cows from lecturers and staff are 1/7 each, while from students is a sacrificial exercise, where students contribute IDR 50,000 and the results can get 2 cows.
The qurbani meat was then distributed to the community around the campus, educational staff, and those in need. ‘We mainly distribute the meat to residents around the campus, UMPWR lecturers and staff, as well as submissions from PCM and mosques in Purworejo,’ he said.
UMPWR Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., said that this activity was not only a means to foster the spirit of sacrifice among the campus, but also to strengthen social relations and care for the surrounding environment.
‘Through this sacrifice, we hope that UMPWR continues to be an institution that not only excels in education, but is also active in social and religious activities,’ he said.
The sacrifice went smoothly and solemnly, and involved a committee of lecturers, employees, students, and campus volunteers. The implementation of this sacrifice has become an annual agenda of UMPWR as part of the practice of Islamic values in campus life. (akb/KP).
