Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - The Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Programme organised an Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah (AIK) Workshop for PPG students who are prospective teachers of Batch 2 Year 2024. This activity is an integral part of strengthening Islamic values and Muhammadiyah ideology which characterises education at UMPWR
This workshop was held on Tuesday, 27 May 2025 in the Seminar Room of Campus III Sucen and was attended by 94 PPG students from various fields of study. The aim was to equip prospective teachers not only with professional competence, but also with a strong spiritual and ideological foundation as educators in a school environment based on Islamic and Muhammadiyah values.
This activity presented speakers from the Institute for the Study, Deepening, Practising of Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan UMPWR. The material presented included the history and ideology of Muhammadiyah, Muhammadiyah religious understanding, and worship practices.
The Chairman of the Workshop Committee, Dr. R. Wakhid Akhdinirwanto, M.Si., said that after this workshop, PPG students are expected to have 10 Islamic characters, including honesty, integrity, responsibility, discipline, optimism, humility, respect, loyalty, empathy, and wisdom.
UMPWR PPG Coordinator, Dr Yuli Widiyono, M.Pd., expressed his gratitude to the PPG students for attending. He explained that this workshop is part of the characteristics of UMPWR students, namely the existence of AIK. Dr Yuli hopes that this activity will have a positive impact on daily life.
UMPWR Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., said that this workshop activity is mandatory for PPG students as one of the graduation requirements. The Rector hopes that UMPWR PPG graduates understand about Islamic education, and can incorporate Islamic values and strengthening in every subject delivered to students.
This workshop also became a place to gather and strengthen the spirit of togetherness among PPG participants. The students welcomed this activity because it provided insight and motivation in undergoing the teacher professional education process as a whole, not only from the pedagogical and professional aspects, but also from the spiritual and ideological sides. With the implementation of this workshop, it is hoped that the PPG teacher candidates for Batch 2 Year 2024 will be able to become educators with integrity, competitiveness, and be able to become role models in the community.
