Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - a lecturer in the Agribusiness Study Programme of the Faculty of Agriculture, Arta Kusumaningrum, S.P., M.Sc., was present and actively participated in the simultaneous rice harvesting activities in the regional innovation programme of the Community Movement to Build Lumbung into Rice Self-Sufficiency (Gemblung dadi Waras) on Monday, 19 May 2025. This harvest was the first after planting rice seeds using mineral water gallon waste as a container was carried out on 1 February 2025. The harvest was carried out in a hybrid manner, namely in Purworejo Subdistrict and through zoom meetings at several points which also harvested rice simultaneously.

The Regional Innovation Movement ‘Gemblung dadi Waras’ was initiated by Purworejo Sub-district Head Bagas Adi Karyanto. "For the first time, the Rojo Lele variety of rice was planted. "Alhamdulillah, today is exactly 118 days, we also harvest simultaneously and successfully produce dry grain," said Bagas. In this simultaneous harvest, there was a positive note, namely normal yields. While the negative note is that this type of rice has a weakness in the stem that is easily broken in the middle.

"After today's harvest, we cut the paddy stalks, we will wait for another 50 days to produce the second to third harvest," he added.

Furthermore, the Purworejo sub-district head hopes that Gemblung dadi Waras can become a joint movement applied in all villages and sub-districts in Purworejo, and become part of the local contribution in realising national food sovereignty.

Also present at the event were the Regent of Purworejo Yuli Hastuti, S.H., Kasdim 0708 / Pamungkas, Major Inf Rokhiyani, Deputy Chief of Purworejo Police Kompol Edi Nana Sugito, Head of the Purworejo Environment Office, Wiyoto, Head of the Food Security and Agriculture Office, Hadi Satsilo, Head of the P3APMD Office Laksana Sakti and 25 Heads of Villages / Villages of Purworejo District, a number of local campus representatives, related institutions and several representatives of Youth and Women's Organisations.

The Regent of Purworejo, Yuli Hastuti, appreciated this innovation in agriculture. "We really appreciate and support this Gemblung dadi Waras agricultural innovation. Hopefully it can bring benefits to the food security of the Purworejo community," said Hj. Yuli Hastuti, S.H. (akb / KP)
