Purworejo - In commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5, the Science and Technology Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPwr) in collaboration with the ECO Enzim Nusantara Purworejo Community held an educational workshop in Sindurjan Village, Purworejo Regency.

This activity was attended by a number of students who learned firsthand how to process household waste into Eco Enzyme, which is a multi-benefit liquid resulting from fermentation of organic waste in the form of fresh fruit and vegetable peels. The fermentation process takes three months and produces a product that can be used as a natural cleaner, liquid fertilizer, and pest repellent.

Handoyo, a representative of the ECO Enzyme Nusantara Community in Purworejo, acted as a presenter and guide in the workshop. He emphasized the importance of public awareness of climate change and environmental degradation. "The temperature and weather in the countryside have changed a lot. Eco Enzyme is one of the simple yet impactful ways to care for the earth," he said.

Eco Enzyme is made from a simple mixture: one part sugar molasses, three parts organic waste, and ten parts water. Besides being easy to make, this liquid is an alternative solution to reduce waste and support the zero waste movement.

Two UMPwr students, Nofiana Sekar Damayanti and Selvi Oktafia, expressed their excitement to learn directly from the community. "We just found out that kitchen waste can be processed into useful products. This is not only new knowledge, but also a fun and memorable experience," Selvi said.

This year's World Environment Day has the theme "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration" which emphasizes the importance of ecosystem restoration. Through this activity, UMPwr students showed real action in supporting environmental conservation.

UMPwr Science and Technology UKM hopes that, through collaboration with the community, students will not only gain knowledge, but also the spirit to continue contributing to the environment directly in the community.

“Love the earth, love yourself, make Eco Enzyme,” became the moral message echoed throughout the activity as a collective invitation to preserve the environment from home.
