Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - in order to support the acceleration of government programmes in regional development, UMPWR established cooperation with the Central Java Provincial Government. This cooperation was realised through the signing of a Joint Agreement and Cooperation Agreement on Monday, 17 March 2025 at Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building, Central Java Governor's Office.

UMPWR is one of 44 universities in Central Java, both public and private, involved in this cooperation. The agreement was signed by the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, together with 35 rectors and directors of universities. Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of Central Java, Sumarno, signed the agreement with 44 vice-rectors, deans, and heads of Research and Community Service Institutions (LPPM).

Present from UMPWR at the signing of the cooperation were Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., Head of Domestic Cooperation Galih Bagas Soesilo, S.H., LL.M., and Dean of the Faculty of Economics Dr Intan Puspita Sari, S.E., M.Sc. The Rector of UMPWR signed a Joint Agreement with the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, with the scope of cooperation in Education, Research, Training, Community Service, Improvement and Development of Human Resource Competencies, Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Programme, Government Affairs that are the Authority of the Region, and other fields of cooperation that support Regional Development. Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of UMPWR signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Regional Secretary of the Central Java Provincial Government, Sumarno, with the scope of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Assistance, Strengthening and Empowerment of Cooperatives, Islamic boarding school economic development (santri preneur), Training and Assistance for halal certification, HAKI, PIRT, Assistance for Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDES) and Joint Village-Owned Enterprises (BUDESMA), as well as Financial Processing and management training for Coastal Women and Women Farmers.

The Rector of UMPWR welcomed this cooperation, where the Central Java Provincial Government through the Governor involves universities in an effort to achieve the targets of accelerating regional development. ‘We welcome the steps taken by the Central Java Provincial Government to collaborate with the Campus to implement its programmes. So that later the programmes carried out will receive assistance from experts from campuses in accordance with their respective competencies,’ said the rector of UMPWR.

Head of the Central Java Provincial Government, Regional Autonomy and Cooperation Bureau, Muhamad Masrofi explained that the signing of the joint agreement and cooperation agreement had previously been preceded by a discussion of the potential of the campus and the Central Java Provincial Government programme. There are at least a number of fields that will be guarded together, namely education, research, community service, improvement and development of human resources, independent learning programmes, and others. ‘The purpose of signing this cooperation is to optimise the resources owned by the Central Java Provincial Government and universities, in the context of implementing the Tri Dharma PT synergy, as part of supporting regional development,’ said Masrofi.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi hopes that the cooperation is not limited to an agreement or MoU, but academics can be part of the participation in the development of Central Java, to make it more advanced and sustainable.

‘So far, we have only relied on the integration of the central and regional governments, and collaboration with district/city governments to the village level, but here there is a slice of government that we include, including academics who always escort us for five years or so,’ said Luthfi.

UMPWR will support the programmes of the Central Java Provincial Government, the existing cooperation will further strengthen the relationship between UMPWR and the Central Java Provincial Government to jointly advance Central Java. Hopefully this cooperation will have an impact on the progress of education and the development of the potential and development of the Central Java region. (Akb/KP)
