Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - Dr. Herlina Setyowati, M.Pd. (Lecturer in Javanese Language and Literature Education) and Dr. Junaedi Setiyono, M.Pd. (Lecturer in Master of English Education) became resource persons in the Technical Guidance on Writing Based on Local Cultural Content Phase I organised by the Purworejo Regency Library and Archives Office. The activity which was held on Tuesday, 11 March 2025 in the Hall of the 2nd Floor Support Building of the Purworejo Regency Public Library, Jl. Mardiusodo No. 10 Kutoarjo was attended by 60 participants who passed the selection of writing essays containing Purworejo's local wisdom consisting of librarians, lecturers, teachers, students, and students.
In addition to the two UMPWR lecturers, another resource person in this activity was Hantoro Wibowo. This activity was organised with the aim of increasing the competence and capacity of novice writers, increasing the number of creative writers in the regions who can preserve local wisdom, developing literacy content and/or collections based on local wisdom, and creating writing ecosystems in the regions. In this activity, Dr Junaedi Setyono, M.Pd. delivered material on ‘Introduction to writing techniques’, Dr Herlina Setyowati, M.Pd., on ‘Introduction to culture and local wisdom’, and Hantoro Wibowo on ‘Data collection techniques’.
Dr Junaedi Setyono, M.Pd. stated that this activity can support the realisation of the Indonesian Golden Generation because the participants are educators who care about the wisdom of their respective regions. They were very enthusiastic in participating in the activity.
Dr Herlina Setyowati, M.Pd., stated that Purworejo is very rich in traditions that are still preserved today, including the wiwitan tradition before the rice harvest and the rewang tradition where people have a dream. ‘These traditions that contain community wisdom need to be documented by writing them down so that someday our children and grandchildren can read and understand them. This document can be a source of knowledge and learning for future generations,’ he explained.
Dwi Puspitaningrum, one of the participants, stated that the material presented by the speakers was interesting, added new insights and knowledge, and added motivation to write essays.
