Inaugural Tarawih at Campus Mosque, UMPWR Rector Conveys Benefits of Fasting

Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - Campus Mosque held the first tarawih prayer in congregation in the month of Ramadan 1446 H on 28 February 2025. UMPWR Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., was the Khotib on this occasion, and H. Nasrudin, MSI was the Imam. In the first lecture of the tarawih prayer at the UMPWR campus mosque, the Rector conveyed many things related to the benefits of fasting.

In his talk, the rector explained that scientifically, Ramadan fasting has various health benefits that have been researched in various medical and physiological studies, such as Cellular Cleansing, Lowering the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease, Improving Insulin Sensitivity and Preventing Diabetes, Improving Brain Function and Preventing Neurodegeneration, Reducing Inflammation and Improving Immunity, Optimising Metabolism and Helping Weight Loss, to Improving Sleep Patterns and Reducing Oxidative Stress.

Ramadan fasting not only has spiritual value but also carries many health benefits that have been proven by modern science. Fasting is proven to be one of the natural methods to improve the overall health of the body. These benefits show that the commandment of fasting reinforces the belief that Islamic teachings contain great wisdom for human life.

For information, tarawih prayers together at the UMPWR Campus Mosque are held for 11 rak'ahs with a 4-4-3 formation starting with a 2 rak'ah sunnah iftitah prayer. On the last 10 days of Ramadan, I'tikaf is also held at the Campus Mosque with tarawih prayers in congregation starting at 03.00 WIB and followed by sahur together.
