Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - actively participated in the implementation of the Regional Innovation Gemblung (Community Movement to Build Barns) or the Initial Planting of Rice Seeds at the Hall of Purworejo District on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The activity was carried out to support Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's Food Security program.
The activity was attended by 183 participants from Danramil Purworejo, Head of Purworejo Police, Head of DLHP Purworejo District, Coordinator of BPP Purworejo District, Chairman of KNPI Purworejo District, Chairman of STIE Rajawali, Chairman of Kwartir Ranting Purworejo, Director of BUMDesma Grata Mandiri Lkd Purworejo District, Chairman of Youth Organization Purworejo District, Chairman of TP PKK Purworejo District, Chairman of Dharma Wanita Purworejo District, Chairman of DPO Purworejo District, and Krema Coffee. The delegates from UMPWR are UMPWR Lecturers who attended the event were Arta Kusumaningrum, S.P., M.Sc.
The process of planting the rice seeds first prepares a 19 L gallon container with the top cut off for easy planting, then prepares the planting medium in the form of a mixture of soil, compost, and dolomite. The variety used is Rojolele. Next, the planting media is placed in the gallon container that has been prepared for planting. Next, 3 planting holes are made as deep as a finger, each planting hole is filled with 2 rice seeds, watered with water that has been mixed with growth regulators and liquid organic fertilizer. Sıram regularly 2x a day, namely morning and evening. Wait for the harvest period of about 90 days.
Purworejo Sub-District Head Bagas Adi hopes that this activity can initiate further activities to continue to produce food produced from Food Barn Innovation by utilizing Gallons. UMPWR delegate, Arta Kusumaningrum, S.P., M.Sc. said that the concept is very interesting because we can grow rice in gallons that we can place around the house or yard.
“We can apply this rice barn innovation concept in urban areas to provide urban food needs in particular. What is expected from this concept is that we are able to meet our own food needs to achieve food self-sufficiency,” he said. (akb/KP)
