Muhamamdiyah Purworejo University (UMPWR) - for the first time in history, the English Student Centre (ESC) UKM held an English debate titled Road To National University Debating Championship (NUDC) on Saturday, 25 January 2025. This activity was held in the East Campus Seminar Room of the UMPWR Rectorate Building. NUDC itself is an English debate competition for students throughout Indonesia organised by the national achievement centre of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. According to Alghani as the head of the organising committee, EDC aims to get the right candidates to be trained more intensely to be ready for NUDC.
‘In looking for candidates for NUDC participants, an internal selection is usually held, so we use this EDC format with the intention of being more lively and inviting student enthusiasm,’ explained Alghani, who is also a 5th semester PBI student.
EDC itself was attended by 22 students who were divided into 11 teams. Later 3 teams will be taken to be intensively trained for the debate. Meanwhile, the campus also appreciated this activity by giving appreciation to the 3 best teams and best speakers. In the future, this event is expected to become a tradition in UKM ESC and UMPWR as a means to increase student enthusiasm in learning English. (akb/KP)
