UMPWR - Amur State University of Russia Holds XIII International Scientific and Methodological Video Conference

Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - implementing cooperation with Amur State University of Russia, on 17 January 2025 held the XIII International Scientific and Methodological Video Conference with the theme ‘Teaching Foreign Languages to College and Secondary Students at the Current Stage’. The conference was organised by the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology of Amur State University in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Languages of St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University), the Department of English and Linguodidactics of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Moscow City Pedagogical University and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of UMPWR (Indonesia) with the support of the Amur Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Education.

The event was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Amur State University and the 10th anniversary of science and technology. The main objectives of the conference were to improve language training strategies and the quality of foreign language teaching in the context of national and international educational standards; the effectiveness of innovative activities in solving current problems of language education.

There were 100 participants who took part in this activity. In the video conference, reports of scientists, teachers and students from educational and scientific institutions in Russia and Indonesia were heard and discussed. The conference programme included 16 oral presentations and 31 poster presentations by colleagues from UMPWR (Purworejo, Indonesia), Semarang University (Central Java, Indonesia), AmSU, St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology, Moscow City Pedagogical University, BSPU, ASMU, DalSAU, Ivanovo State University, Ivanovo State Power Engineering University named after V.I. Lenin, Taganrog Institute named after A.P. Chekhov (branches) of Rostov State University of Economics (RINH), Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, St. Petersburg State University, Russian Herzen State Pedagogical University, St. Petersburg State University of Economics, St. Petersburg State University of Engineering ‘VOENMEKH’ named after. D. F. Ustinov, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Kudrovo High School ‘Board of Education’ and others.

Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific Work A.V. Leifa delivered a welcoming speech to the conference participants on behalf of Amur State University. She noted the relevance of this event. Andrey Vasilyevich emphasised the importance of discussions and the need for exchange of practical experience on the outlined issues, and wished fruitful work to the participants of the video conference. The conference was attended by teachers from the Institute of Foreign Languages of Moscow City Pedagogical University with several reports including:

8. Alexander Ayton, ‘how the personal qualities of teachers and students in language classrooms can improve learning outcomes’

9. TELEVISION. A. Botin, V.V. Pavlova, Yu. V. Finagina shared their experience of using a series of illustrations to develop speech in Russian as a foreign language class;

10. Edi Sunjayanto Masykuri (UMPWR), ‘Development of Asynchronous English Teaching Materials’ by Edi Sunjayanto Masikuri.
