Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Mosquito Nest Eradication (Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk or PSN) activities were carried out as part of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) PG.03 Group of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo in Roworejo Village, Grabag District, Purworejo Regency. This activity aims to reduce the spread of diseases caused by mosquito bites, such as Dengue Fever (DHF) and malaria, through mosquito nest eradication and prevention efforts in the community.

The activity took place from 13.00 WIB to 16.50 WIB in the Roworejo Village environment. The targets of this activity include residents' homes and public facilities that have the potential to become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. A total of 20 KKN students and Roworejo Village officials participated in this activity. The activity agenda included socializing to residents about the importance of mosquito nest eradication at the village hall, cleaning water reservoirs, and checking and spraying insecticides in areas prone to mosquito nests.

The method applied in PSN is by draining, covering, and recycling places that have the potential to become mosquito nests. In addition, counseling was conducted to the community to maintain environmental cleanliness regularly and check places that are prone to mosquito nests. During the activity, the community was very enthusiastic and supportive of this program. Several mosquito nests were found and immediately cleaned or treated with mosquito repellent.

The results of the Mosquito Nest Eradication (Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk or PSN) program in Roworejo Village showed that approximately 39.1% of households were found to have mosquito nests or mosquito larvae, while 60.9% of other houses had no mosquito nests. Although most houses are free of mosquito nests, this result does not meet the criteria for mosquito larvae free, which is set at a minimum of 90% of houses without mosquito larvae. Therefore, despite the high enthusiasm of the community, efforts to eradicate mosquito nests need to be intensified in order to achieve a more optimal mosquito larva freedom target.

As a result, KKN students and the community agreed to continue maintaining environmental cleanliness and carry out PSN activities regularly in each neighborhood. Hopefully, these activities can reduce the potential spread of mosquito-borne diseases and increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness as a preventive measure. The KKN students are also committed to continuing to assist the community in maintaining environmental cleanliness and health.
