Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - As one of the efforts to realise the Vision and Mission of the Information Technology Study Program (PSTI), on 8 and 9 January 2024 an International Joint Research was held with the College of Built Environment Directory Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Cawangan Perak Malaysia. PSTI's vision which seeks to become a superior study program in Smart City and Smart Village technology is trying to be realised with this activity.

The lecturers who carried out the Joint Research Program Sabbatical Leave activities from the Bureau of Cooperation and International Affairs (KUI) were Murhadi, S.Pd.T., M.Eng from PSTI UMPWR with Dr. Lee Seng Boon from the College of Built Environment Directory UiTM Cawangan Perak Malaysia.  Assoc. Prof. Tusino as the Vice Rector for Cooperation and AIK said that this activity was one form of implementation of the international cooperation agreement which had already been covered by the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMPWR and UiTM.

Murhadi, S.Pd.T., M.Eng stated that the research topic raised was about Smart City Initiatives with the title Smart City Initiatives: A Comparative Study Of Indonesian and Malaysian Cities. This research aims to portray a comparison of Smart City initiatives in Indonesian and Malaysian Cities.

College of Built Environment Directory UiTM Cawangan Perak Malaysia was chosen as a partner to carry out Joint Research because it has a City Planning Study Programme, one of which focuses on City Development and Smart Cities. In addition, UiTM is also one of the universities involved in the planning and development of smart cities in Malaysia.

At the same time, the discussion was also attended by Gs. Dr Norhazlan Haron and Madam Nor Faizah from UiTM Cawangan Perak Global Cooperation Affairs to discuss further forms of cooperation.

Hopefully, the implementation of this cooperation can be a space for greater collaboration between the two universities in general and the two countries in general. This joint research is also expected to be a medium to improve the quality of research and enrich knowledge about research in the field of Smart City.

Dr. Jeki Wibawanti as the head of KUI said that this is the first activity abroad in 2025, so this activity will motivate UMPWR study programmes and lecturers to carry out Sabbatical Leave programmes.
