Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - Rector Assoc.Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., officially opened the 2024 Rector's Cup Futsal on Wednesday, 18 December 2024 at GOR Sarwo Edie Wibowo Purworejo. The Rector's Cup Futsal was held by the Sports Student Activity Unit (UKM Olahraga) for 5 days starting from 17 December 2024 until Saturday, 21 December 2024.
This tournament is an annual agenda organised by UMPWR Sports UKM which competes between study programs at UMPWR and also between SMA / SMK / MA equivalent in Central Java for both male and female teams. The 2024 Rector's Cup Futsal event was attended by 20 Men's Futsal teams and 5 Women's teams from Study Programmes at UMPWR who competed with the club system first. As for the inter-high school / vocational / high school equivalent in Central Java followed by 32 male teams, and 16 female teams which are carried out with a knockout system. In addition to the futsal match, the committee also opened UMKM stands.
This tournament was held as an event for introductions and socialisation between male and female students between high school / vocational / high school equivalent in Central Java in order to create harmony in togetherness through futsal competition, as an activity to accommodate the interests and talents of futsal between male and female students between high school / vocational schools equivalent in Central Java, as well as a place for screening UMPWR student athletes, especially in the field of futsal sports. And of course this tournament is a promotional event for the Faculty or Study Programme at UMPWR.
Matches have started since Tuesday 17 December 2024 which competes between Study Programs at UMPWR, and on Wednesday 18 December 2024 matches between SMA / SMK / MA equivalent in Central Java began. In his opening remarks, the Rector of UMPWR advised all participants to maintain sportsmanship during the tournament. This futsal tournament can also improve skills. ‘With this tournament, it can improve skills in futsal sports. So that later it can go to a higher team or national team’, hoped the Rector of UMPWR.
One of the participants from SMA N 3 Purworejo admitted that he was happy and excited about this futsal event. ‘The committee is friendly and cool. The referee is also fair so it's fun to play in this event’, said one of the futsal players from SMA N 3 Purworejo. (akbar/KP).
