Also present were Head of the Law Study Programme Septi Indrawati, S.H., M.H., and all lecturers of UMPWR Law Study Programme. This public lecture activity is one of the programmes as an effort to prevent the long chain of corruption in Indonesia, especially in the red and white cabinet of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. By becoming active controllers, students can act as the frontline in preventing abuse of authority and budget. Students are also expected to educate their peers about the importance of an anti-corruption culture, and the need for intellectuals to be able to fight corruption, especially students. Corruption is one of the major problems that hinder the progress of the State, this action not only harms the State's finances but also damages public trust in government, weakens democratic institutions, and exacerbates social injustice.
The first speaker Dr Sapardiyono S.Hut., M.H said that all people must be consistent and ready to support the continuity of the current government, especially in dealing with corruption eradication. The election of the KPK chairman must be independent or separated from the auspices of the government and must run on its own as before and must be strengthened not weakened. Sapardiyono also said, ‘The law must be given life, and the life of the law is moral’.
The second speaker Dr Trisno Raharjo, S.H., M.Hum, conveyed many things on this occasion including conveying the law enforcement agenda towards golden Indonesia, namely realising social transformation, economic transformation, and governance transformation.
Nafal Farhan Rachmad, one of the Law students who participated said that this public lecture was very useful. ‘With this public lecture on corruption, we come to know how the strategic role of students is to contribute in concrete activities by mapping corruption including providing advocacy on the importance of anti-corruption, this anti-corruption education is our attitude and behaviour so that we support not to commit acts of corruption’, he said.
