Purworejo, November 28, 2024 -The English Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah Purworejo University held a seminar entitled “Improving Education Innovation Through Student Creativity”. The event, which took place in the East Campus seminar room, was attended by 65 3rd semester students.
The seminar aimed to provide insight and understanding of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) and encourage students to actively participate in the program. Dian Dwi Lestari, Chairperson of the English Education Student Association, in her speech expressed her hope that this activity could provide insight to students to graduate without a thesis through various pathways. She emphasized the importance of creativity and innovation in education and the active role of students in developing their potential.
Two competent resource persons also attended the seminar, namely Mr. Andrian Nuriza Johan, S.S., M.Pd as the Head of English Education Study Program, and Mr. Dedi Runanto, S.E. M.Si as the main speaker. On the occasion, Mr. Andrian explained that PKM has a significant influence on various aspects, including study program accreditation. “PKM can contribute to study program accreditation, which is related to student achievement and their participation in PKM. If the study program can motivate students to participate in PKM and students succeed in getting funding, this will support the increase in accreditation,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr. Andrian added that one of the important goals of students is not only to get the opportunity to develop their creative ideas, but also to complete their studies quickly. Universities that are active in encouraging and supporting students to participate in PKM demonstrate a high commitment to the development of student creativity and innovation. This not only benefits the students themselves, but also contributes to the reputation of the institution.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dedi Runanto as the keynote speaker conveyed important information regarding the various types of PKM available to students. “PKM has many options. We need to understand the objectives and types of PKM and assist students in submitting proposals,” he said. He emphasized the importance of synergy between students and the community in realizing this program.
Mr. Dedi also explained that PKM is not only a means to improve students' soft skills, but can also produce products with interesting philosophies. “Social humanities research is one of the options that can be taken by students from education majors. Students can do research on language that has advantages and can become a thesis proposal,” he added.
In closing the seminar, Mr. Dedi emphasized the importance of collaboration between students, lecturers, and the community. “Students are expected to develop their thinking power and find innovative PKM themes. Types of PKM such as PKM-PM (Community Service), PKM-Social Humanities Research, and others provide space for students to be creative,” he concluded.
