Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) - Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) in commemoration of Teachers' Day, organised a seminar with the theme ’Teachers: Pillars of Quality Education Towards the Golden Generation’ on Monday, 25 November 2024. Located in the Auditorium Kasman Singodimedjo UMPWR, this activity was attended by the Dean of FETT Dr. Riawan Yudi Purwoko, M.Pd, Secretary of Education and Culture Purworejo Purwasih Handayani, M.M, Head of Study Programmes in FETT, and lecturers of Economics Education, as well as 800 participants from 1st and 3rd semester students of FETT and the general public.
The speakers in this seminar were Economics Education lecturer Prof. Dr Sugeng Eko Putro Widoyoko, M.Pd and Chairman of MGMP Economics Teacher of Purworejo Regency. Drs Hardjito, M.Pd. This seminar was the culmination of activities to commemorate the National Teacher's Day in 2024, which had previously been carried out in a series of activities in the form of essay competitions for FKIP students and the public. Before the seminar was held there were 2 entertainments, the first gambyong ayun-ayun dance performance and the reading of musical poetry about teachers by UMPWR students as a welcome for invited guests and participants. There was also an announcement of the championship and prize distribution for the essay competition, the first winner was Ridho Bayu Saputro (PBSI-Sem V), the second winner was Dini Aprilia (P. Economics-Sem I) and the third winner was Wanda Pramesta Utami (P. Economics-Sem I).
Secretary of the Purworejo Regency Education and Culture Office Purwasih Handayani, M.M in her speech expressed her hope that this seminar would motivate teachers and prospective teachers who certainly have a very noble task, namely educating and advancing the nation's children, especially in Purworejo district. Speakers Prof Dr Sugeng Eko Putro Widyoko, M.Pd and Drs Hardjito. M.Pd, conveyed the importance of preparing qualified teachers to face the golden Indonesia era in 2045.
Prof. Dr Sugeng Eko Putro Widoyoko, M.Pd said that to become a qualified teacher, it is better to be wrong but stepping up than never being wrong but never stepping up at all, because learning is actually trial and error. Meanwhile, Drs Hardjito, M.Pd said that prospective teachers must continue to learn even though they have already taught.
