Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) officially opened the 2026 Baitul Arqam Pra Studi program on Friday, October 30, 2026. The event was officially opened by Vice Rector IV for Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) and Cooperation, Dr. Tusino, M.Pd.BI., at the Seminar Room of the East Campus, UMPWR Rectorate Building.
The Baitul Arqam Pra Studi program is attended by all UMPWR new students for the 2026/2027 academic year. The program serves as an initial introduction to Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan values while helping students develop good worship practices and ethical conduct throughout their university life.
The organizing committee chair, who also serves as Head of UMPWR’s LP3AK, Nasrudin, M.S.I., explained that this year’s Baitul Arqam Pra Studi program is divided into seven batches. The entire series of activities is scheduled to conclude in mid-December 2026.
Nasrudin explained that UMPWR organizes two types of Baitul Arqam programs: Baitul Arqam Pra Studi and Baitul Arqam Pasca Studi. The Pra Studi program is intended for new students, while the Pasca Studi program is attended by fifth-semester students.
“For Baitul Arqam Pra Studi, the materials focus on worship practices and student ethics. The program runs for two days and one night, from Friday to Saturday. We hope students will not only gain knowledge but also understand and put it into practice in their daily lives,” he explained.
The materials cover various topics, including purification practices (thaharah), the proper performance of prayer (salat), and student ethics. Through this program, students are expected to develop a sound understanding of Islamic worship practices and apply Islamic values in both their academic activities and everyday lives.
Nasrudin added that Baitul Arqam also has a historical foundation rooted in following the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). From an academic perspective, participation in Baitul Arqam is one of the requirements students must fulfill to be eligible to take their undergraduate thesis examination.
Meanwhile, in his remarks at the opening ceremony, Dr. Tusino emphasized the importance of introducing Muhammadiyah values from the beginning of students’ academic journeys at UMPWR. He noted that learning about AIK is an essential part of education at Muhammadiyah higher education institutions, including for students who do not come from Muhammadiyah backgrounds.
He also emphasized that UMPWR is an inclusive university that welcomes everyone. Students from diverse organizational, religious, and social backgrounds have equal opportunities to pursue their education at UMPWR, including non-Muslim students.
Therefore, new students are expected to participate in all Baitul Arqam activities seriously and understand the materials presented. The program is not merely a mandatory activity but also an opportunity for students to gain valuable knowledge and guidance for their university journey.
“Make sure you participate in this program properly. The materials presented should be understood thoroughly because participation is mandatory, and students are also required to pass. God willing, this program will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience,” he said.
Through Baitul Arqam Pra Studi 2026, UMPWR hopes that new students will be well prepared to undertake their university studies while developing strong moral character, a sound understanding of Islamic values, and the ability to practice ethical conduct both on campus and in society. (akb/KP)
